Heroic Moment - Prologue initiates the idea with a board game set a half year ago and Heroic Moment concludes it with a mobile box that is supposed to encapsulate the game set, reflecting my on-going research and thinking on critical game theory, hero theory, and self-inquiry into my fluid childhood perception of “hero”.

Heroic Moment is created as a box that contains and further develops its prologue with a shift of focus to the representation of a hero. It is an attempt to examine and thereby challenge some of the categorizations that sustain society by tracing the time back to when all these categorizations were imprinted in my mind through cultural products, media, and education. In theory, according to Judith Butler, “social systems hold many fixed categories from gender to class, race, and economies, and these systems can only be challenged by examining the categorizations that sustain them.” Hero system is one of the biggest systems withholding all these categorizations of society, and it is through play, I examine it. In Heroic Moment, the instruction is presented to guide potential players of the game through its narrative highlighting three common stages of becoming a hero shared by almost all myths from different cultures, traditionally known as “a hero’s quest”, naming Departure, Initiation, and Return.
